Proctoscopy

Before the procedure, the physician will palpate the anus with the tip of the finger and, using a rigid metal tube called a proctoscope, will apply a lubricant gel that also acts as a mild anesthetic. The procedure may cause mild discomfort. It is very rare for the procedure to cause pain, however, and this usually only happens in patients with very specific disorders. There is no need to worry; everything will be explained to you.

This type of procedure is used to treat different disorders of the rectum and anus, such as hemorrhoids, which can be removed using rubber band ligation.
